Blu-ray Review: UltraSeven The Complete Series

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Ultra Seven is the third installment in the Ultra Series and was produced by Tsuburaya Productions and aired on Tokyo Broadcasting System from October 1, 1967 to September 8, 1968.

Mill Creek Entertainment released the first 2 series on Blu-ray Ultra Q and Ultraman which we reviewed earlier. Now it's Time for Ultra Seven to get its turn to shine.

Earth is in danger as interplanetary wars rage on. From the underground complex the Ultra Guard, an elite unit of the Terrestrial Defense Force, stand as Earth's last defense. But unbeknownst to his teammates, Dan Moroboshi is secretly an extraterrestrial aiding them in their fight to preserve the future of humanity.

As Ultraseven he fights beside the Ultra Guard pushing back alien armies that would try to conquer Earth and eliminate it's habitants. As the threats increase, consequences of Ultraseven's power increase as well. A battle for his soul emerges in the face of constant violence.

The series ran for 49 twenty-five minutes episodes. The series is everything you love of the old kaiju films. There are awesome monsters, the chessy cool special effects, the iconic sound effects. They are all found in this series.

The 49 episodes are presented in 1080p High Definition in the original full-screen format 1.33:1 aspect ratio and in the Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 And come with the English Subtitles

Okay, so we don't get the English dubbed version of these episodes. That would be awesome. We do get the episodes and the transfers of these episodes look and sound stellar. With each disc having only 8 episodes on them the best quality is given to these cult classics. I am shocked at how clear these episodes look. I have never seen them look this good.

Just as I was impressed with the first two releases I was just as impressed with Ultraseven. I love these Ultraman sets. When you get all of the Blu-ray releases and put them on the shelf stacked side by side they produce a spine mural, that is so cool! I highly recommend these sets.

So if your a fan of classic Kaiju this is definitely the best set for your money. It is available today (at the time of this review). Note this series is also available on special edition Steebook. Pick up your copy today!
