Deadline: The Complete Series {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Film Chest Media Group has been releasing classic movies and television shows on DVD and Blu-ray. Surprisingly the next release is one that was thought lost. found in a garage in New Jersey was the TV Series Deadline.

Deadline
was an anthology TV series that ran from 1959-61. The show took actual newspaper headlines of the 1950s and made dramatic presentations. Reporters are the first line of defense of the principles rooted in our Constitution and protected under the first amendment. They uphold everything that our civil society stands for.

The show ran for around 26 minutes and was hosted by, Paul Stewart and had many amazing guest stars including; Peter Falk, Diane Ladd, George Maharis, Robert Lansing, and many more.
This is a really interesting show and is a true snapshot of another era. The series are engaging and the acting is really good.

Disc One: The Victor Riesel Story / State Scandal / Pickup / The Neon Touch / Extortion / The Accusing Finger / Mass Murder (Flight 169) / The Case Of the Stranger / Charm Boy / Old Man Lost / Thre Human Story / Hot Stuff / The Face of a Theif

Disc Two: Murderess /Chain Reaction / Clean Kill / Loney Hearts Killer / Return to Murder / Scramble / Masaacre / The Blue Dahlia / Checkmate / Jailbreak / Mad Bomber / Character Witness / Dumb Kid

Disc Three
: A Story from Christmas / Birthday Present / Suspicion of a Murder / Thesis for Murder / Exposure / Pig Woman / To movie a Mountian / One Tall, One Short / The Cave / The Two Ounce Trap / The Last Knockout / Wetback / Smoke Screen

Now for the DVD release, the episodes are presented in their original full-screen format and is in Dolby Digital 2.0. The quality of these episodes look pretty good. Granted there is some dirt and damage to the prints themselves, but these look and sound better than I ever imagined they would. Especially when you think we didn't even know if prints of this series even survived. So this DVD release is a miracle.

Now as DVD Bonus features, there is a Deadline DVD trailer and an interview with Broadcast Journalism Professor of Sacred Heart University Joe Alicastro. This 25 Minute interviews is a really amazing bonus feature. Themes talked about include how true the Deadline series really was to real reporting in the 1950s. How journalism has changed over the years. and so much more.

Now as amazing as all this is, this release doesn't stop there. We also get a high-quality glossy booklet that includes, episodes trivia, episode synopsis, photos from the series and Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics. The booklet is just jammed with amazing information.

As for the packaging of this 3 Disc DVD set. Each of the discs have there own disc hub. There is no disc stacking, which is a huge problem for many collectors. The booklet is a high quality on thick glossy paper. The information included in this booklet is a welcomed addition to this set.

So I highly recommend this release for any classic tv fan. Head over to  Amazon.com and get your copy today. You won't regret it.
