Life with Dog (2018)

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

Finding a film that the whole family can sit down and watch together without being offended is hard to find sometimes. But the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing family friendly, faith based films here recently. The latest one is Life with Dog.

After losing his wife Alice in a mysterious bike accident, Joe Bigler (Corbin Bernsen) is left alone without faith to help him grieve. That and the circumstances of Alice's accident leave more questions than answers, Joe take a downward spiral into the abyss of despair.

He accuses people of murdering his beloved wife! When a dog wanders into his garden and won't leave despite his attempt to chase him off. "Dog" as Joe names him never makes a sound! Soon he finds himself experiencing love he never knew he could.

Through "Dog"'s love and Joe discovers the love of God, and a faith that not only helps Joe toward the road to recovery, but also the unsolved mystery surrounding his wife's accident, and the ability to finally grieve her passing.

The mystery unfolds and takes you on a beautiful journey to the conclusion. It is a very well crafted story. Corbin Bernsen not only stars in this film but he wrote and directed the film as well. That is a very difficult thing to do and I have to say I think he did a great job. The supporting cast including, Chelsey Crisp, Marilu Henner
, Brandon Beemer, Hunter Fischer and Gregory Hoyt are good as well.

This is a very nice little Dove Approved release! I should make a disclaimer here that this film may be a little much for the small children. Joe can be very harsh and there is a time where he write a note calling the Dog a pain and uses a off color word and the letter "F" is used in change of the "F-bomb"! There is also scenes with a gun. So Parents should watch this before hand! But for the film it is a beautiful tale and I do recommend it!

The film on this DVD release is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen format and the audio is 5.1 surround sound. There is also an option for English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired. Which is really nice. The transfer looks and sounds amazing!
