Unbridled (2017) {DVD Review}

Reviewed by Jason Lockard

Inspirational tales of healing, uplift the heart and encourage the soul. One such film is Unbridled. A film based on true stories at Equine Assisted Therapy centers, including the Corral Riding Center in North Carolina.

The good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment is Unbridled on DVD and Digital. A film that won Best Feature at Equus Film Festival, Best family feature at Canadian International Faith and Family Film Festival and Official selection at International Christian Film Festival.

The film follows 16-year-old girl named Sarah (Téa Mckay). She is being abused by her mother's boyfriend Roger as part of a sex trafficking ring. Karen, Sarah's mother, knows what is going on, but chooses to look the other way. When Sarah's abuse is brought to the attention of her teacher, by a boy in her class. She is taken from her mother sent away to a ranch called Unbridled.

While away Karen begins to clean up her act, getting sober in hopes of regaining custody of Sarah.
She even begins to work with police Detective Sangrin (T.C. Stallings), who is desperate to find his own missing daughter who he fears is victim of a trafficking ring suspects Roger.

While at Unbridled Sarah meets an abused horse named, Dreamer. The two bond and help each other heal those wounds of abuse. When Roger is released from jail and returns and Karen falls back into her old bad habits. Roger won't be happy till he has Sarah back under his control. Sarah's only hope my lay in her new friend.

The film has a Christian, biblical worldview without being overly preachy. The story is well crafted one. It is an emotional and at times heart pounding adventure drama. It truly takes you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions.

It is good to note while this is a family film,  there is talk of sexual abuse,  signs of domestic abuse and a scene that shows the effects of attempted suicide. So parents should be aware of this going in.

The acting is solid to say the least. Everyone does a great job, but Sarah played by
Téa Mckay was really stand out. She really buys into this role and really sells it to the hilt. The cinematography is powerfully breathtaking with the shots of horses and scenery.

As for the transfer of this film to DVD, it was beautifully done. The film is presented in 1.78:1 widescreen and Dolby digital. It looks and sounds absolutely outstanding.

Now not only do you get the movie on DVD. But as a bonus you get the theatrical trailer, there is also English subtitles for the hearing impaired which is a nice bonus.

If you are looking for a truly inspiring adventure that is both heart breaking and heartwarming, I cannot recommend Unbridled enough.
