Batman The Movie (1966) {Blu-ray Review}

Reviewed by: Jason Lockard

Our world is being overrun by comic book movies and TV shows. While comic book movies seem to get darker and darker, sometimes you just want to enjoy the fun that is the idea of people in capes fighting evil masterminds. And it doesn't get much more fun than The 1960s Batman movie.

Batman and Robin’s campy adventures debuted on TV to the utter delight of young and old alike. Seasoned veteran actors took the roles of Gotham villains. Cesar Romero played the iconic Joker, Burgess Meredith was The Penguin and even horror legend Vincent Price got into the act playing Egghead. With the success of the TV series came the movie.

The movie follows Gotham four most dangerous villains; Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman as they join forces to hold the world for ransom with a dehydrator (a device that dehydrates people). It’s up to Batman and Robin to stop them, but there is one wrinkle. The villains have kidnapped Bruce Wayne.

Anyone who watched the tv series knows what they are in for, campy fun at it’s best. The colors pop off the screen in this film. The story just transports you to a different carefree time, before all our superhero movies had to be so dark and edgy. Batman the movie is just a fun little film and worth checking out.

The Blu-ray release is presented in widescreen 1.85:1. Sound includes options 5.1, mono in English and French. There is also English, Spanish, Cantonese and Mandarin.

For the bonus features, there is 2 audio commentaries one with Adam West and Burt Ward and the other with Screenwriter Lorenzo Simple Jr. There are also 4 featurettes, a look at the Batmobile with George Barris, an interactive tour of the Batmobile, Batman on location, trivia, teasers and trailers and galleries.

This Blu-ray release is a huge upgrade from the DVD version previously released. It looks and sounds awesome, and the bonus features make this an absolute must add to your superhero collection.

So I highly recommend checking out the Blu-ray release of Batman The Movie. Head over to
