Alice of Wonderland in Paris (1966)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

As kids growing up I think we all marveled at the amazing world Alice found herself in, in Wonderland! We probably all wanted to visit Wonderland. Many film adaptions have been made of Alice in Wonderland, but what about a different adventure.

The good folks at Alpha Video have released a new DVD featuring a 60's animated film Alice of Wonderland in Paris. Never heard of it? I actually hadn't until this release. Let's take look at what is included on this DVD.

The main feature runs 52 minute and follows Young Alice, as she has become somewhat of a celebrity after all of her adventures in Wonderland. In her bedroom Alice dreams about visiting Paris and sharing adventures with the storybook girl Madeline. “Getting to Wonderland was easy – all I had to do was fall down the rabbit hole. But let’s face it – it takes money to get to Paris!”. Enter a little mouse who takes Alice on the adventure in Paris.

This little animated film is a charming story! It's an anthology of many famous children's stories by James Thurder, Ludwig Bemelmans, Eve Titus and Crockett Johnson. The vocal talent of Carl Reiner (Alan Brady on the Dick Van Dyke Show), Howard Morris (Ernest T. Bass on Andy Griffith Show), Allen Swift (The voice of Riff-Raff on Underdog) and Norma MacMillian (the voice of
Davey on Davey and Goliath) lead the way.

The DVD features this amazing little piece of cinema history. The film is presented in full screen format. The audio and video quality is really nice for a 1966 film, there is some minor picture imperfections, but all in all it is really good. But that is not all you get in this release. Alpha Video gave us more with a bonus animated short film Moonbird from 1959 a film that follows two boys who go outside at night to capture a bird.

This is a great little DVD for your young ones. I think adults will have difficulty with the simplicity of the stories, but kids will be enthralled,  with the antics of Alice in Paris and the two little boys.

So if you your looking for a good kid friendly film why not try Alice of Wonderland in Paris.  Head over to Oldies.com and pick up your copy today.
