Western films take us back to a simpler time. A time of hard work, real friendship, no internet, social media. Was it a perfect time? No! But it was a simpler time. Sometime I think the simpler times were a little better.
I think most people would like a simpler life. That is why I believe westerns are so popular. Well, the great folks at Alpha Video has released a classic western double feature. Let's take a look as the two classics included in this double feature DVD release.
Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an evening.
*=You haven’t missed anything.
The Naked Hills (1956) Tracy Powell is a humble Indiana farmer, but he migrates to Stockton, California after hearing of the Gold Rush. When he arrives he finds the town overrun with prospectors. So he allies himself with two greedy claim jumpers. But will they go mad and will they pay the ultimate price for their greed? ***
Terror at Black Falls (1962): A young Mexican boy, Manuel Avila, is falsely accused of a crime and about to be hung by a lynch mob. His father Juan and the Sheriff Cal try to intervene, but Manuel is killed in the process. His father vows revenge! Will he get the vengeance he seeks? ***
These two films are filled with all star power. The actors included in these film are David Wayne, Keenan Wynn, Denver Pyle, Jim Backus, Peter Mamakos, House Peters and Sandra Knight just to name a few.
These two films are housed on one DVD. The stories are action packed dramas. The cinematography is nice. They only run around 70 minutes each so they are not long enough to get bored with the stories. As far as the audio and video quality of these films they are surprisingly good for films not produced by the big studios. Now there is some minor imperfections but nothing that should take away from the enjoyment of these films.
I really enjoyed these two old western films. So if your a fan of westerns I highly recommend this release. Head over to Oldies.com and get a copy for yourself.
