Beauty Shop (2005) {Blu-ray Review}

After the success of Barber Shop and Barber Shop 2! It was time for the ladies to shine in a film of their own! So Queen Latifah took the lead in the film Beauty Shop. Now the good folks at MVD have released this film on Blu-ray via the MVD Marquee collection.

The film follows hairdresser Gina Norris (Latifah) as she has relocated from Chicago to Atlanta with her daughter. She has established herself as the best in her profession. But her ego-maniac boss Jorge, played masterfully by Kevin Bacon, pushes her too far and she abruptly quits!

The only problem is now what is she going to do? Maybe be her own boss! So she starts her own salon bringing along some of Jorge's employee's along for the ride including Lynn (Alicia Silverstone) and Terri (Andie MacDowell). But Jorge is not going to sit back and let her run him out of business. Just how far will he go? You'll have to watch the film to find out!

This is a good fresh story. The cast is a perfect mix and the ladies shine with 'girl power'. In a good note for this reviewer especially, the banter in this film has been dialed way back, from Barber Shop 2! While there is still some of that banter it's more on the lines of the first Barber Shop movie.



The film looks and sounds amazing on Blu-ray! It is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen. The audio is in English 5.1 surround sound and in French in Stereo Surround. The picture quality is amazing and the sound is clear. There is also subtitles in English, French and Spanish.

The Blu-ray is loaded with bonus features! It includes; Selected Scenes Audio Commentary by Director Bille Woodruff, ''Beauty Shop: Inside the Style'' Featurette, Gag Reel, ''Beauty Shop: Sneak Peek'', trailers. These bonus features are presented in Standard Definition!
