Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

In the early days of Television. Many networks were making hour long mini-movies. Featuring adaptions of the best stories, some of the best actors and directors in the world at that time! One such man used in some of those made for TV mini-movies was Academy Award Nominee John Cassavetes.

The good folks at VCI Entertainment have released a new Blu-ray entitled Television Lost Classics Volume 1. This one features 2 episodes of John Cassavetes. Let's take a look at these two episodes and what else is included in this collection!

Our Rating System:
****=Don’t Miss it!
***=Worth a look.
**=An Ok way to spend an hour.
*=You haven’t missed anything.

Crime in the Streets: Teenager Frankie Dane is the leader of the Hornets a gang. Frankie is a troubled young man with a dark soul! The gang makes trouble in the neighborhood. Ben Wagner, a social worker, tries to help the boys see the possibilities of a better life, but the task seems futile. This TV film was directed by Sidney Lumet who directed 12 Angry Men. ****

No Right to Kill: Is based on
Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment and follows a young man who formulates a plan to kill an unscrupulous pawnbroker and stealing her money. Feeling that it is a justifiable killing because it could liberate him from poverty. This TV film was directed by Buzz Kulik, TV Director that brought us many great TV Movies and episodes. ***

These two TV episodes are dramatic fare. The acting is stellar, in addition to John Cassavetes as the lead there is Robert Preston, Terry Moore and Glenda Farrell just to name a few. The direction is on par with the classic films. The cinematography is great! The set are really believable, making you feel your right on the streets in the 50's. I thoroughly enjoyed every second of these episodes!

These episodes have been restored and remastered in HD using the best archival film elements available. While not the standards of high definition of today's film and TV, it still looks and sounds pretty awesome in my opinion. The episodes also include all the original commercials which many TV fans will revel in!

Now if it wasn't enough to get two spectacular lost TV mini-movies, you also get bonus 10 minute blooper reel from the TV series "The Defenders" and "The Nurses". It is good to note this blooper reel is uncensored and has profanity and some brief nudity in it! It is fore adults only!

So if you're a fan of old classic TV or John Cassavetes. This is an absolute must add to your Blu-ray collection! Head over to MVDshop.com and pick it up n DVD or Blu-ray today!
