The Ramparts We Watched (1940) {DVD Review}

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

At the time of this writing we have just celebrated our great nation's (America) birthday. A great time to look at a patriotic classic film from 1940 The Ramparts we watched! This film is now available on dvd to you via the good folks at Alpha Video.

The Ramparts we watched was the first full length motion picture from The March of Dimes. They were well known for the series of newsreels they produced from 1935 to 1951. The film was produced and directed by Louis de Rochemont.

The film follows the events and effects on military and everyday citizens of America as events lead to World War I. The film is comprised of real life footage of war and life and is narrated masterfully by Westbrook Van Voorhis. It is a true snapshot into the past and shows the horrors of war. The film really gives you an new found respect for the men and woman who have served our country to help make us free.

This DVD release includes the entire film in really nice audio and video quality. There are a few minor audio dropouts and video specks, but for the age of this film I think the quality is amazing! And for classic movie fans this just kind of adds to the nostalgic feel of the film. The film moves along and you hardly even realize your at the end of and hour and a half.

I really enjoyed this release. This is perfect for film historians, military film collectors or just classic film aficionados. So head over to www.Oldies.com and get a copy for yourself! It is really good!
