For the Love of Benji (1977) {Blu-ray Review}

Earlier this year Mill Creek Entertainment released a beautifully restored high definition copy of the original Benji movie from 1974. What an amazing looking release it was! You can read our review of that release here! Well, Mill Creek Entertainment has done it again with 'For the love of Benji' on Blu-ray and DVD combo pack!

The film follows Benji's family as they are en route to a vacation in Greece when a fellow passenger "borrows" Benji for just long enough to tattoo a mysterious message on his paw. Separated from the family in Athens, Benji finds himself on the run from an assortment of international spies seeking an energy scientist, who has been working on a secret formula.

The film goes the route of a more spy adventure! Some people dislike this, me I think it makes for a nice change. In my opinion staying in the same style of film for Benji would get old fast! So I like this plot. Double 0 Woof: Operation Greece!

The film has been transferred and restored from the a 35mm print. The Blu-ray is in 1080p High Definition (1.85:1) and Uncompressed 2.0 Stereo. The colors are vibrant and audio is crisp! The widescreen version of this film is a huge upgrade over the previous releases on DVD were you get a cropped version of the picture. Which I hate with a passion!

The Blu-ray includes; A HD copy of the film, an audio commentary featuring Joe and Brandon Camp. Than on the DVD you get the feature film with the audio commentary, but bonus features include a half-hour special Benji Takes a Dive at Marineland and a full length feature film The Double McGuffin, a Joe Camp directed mystery film with a tremendous all-star cast. This is a really good little film and makes an awesome addition to this release. 

I love that Mill Creek made both disc worth something! Usually when you buy a Blu-ray / DVD combo the DVD is more or less a throwaway! Not here! This is a huge plus for me!

I can not say enough how amazing of an upgrade these Blu-ray releases of Benji are over previous DVD releases! They look and sound amazing! They are perfect for a night of entertainment for the whole family!
