Blu-ray Review: Why Don't you Just Die!

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Arrow Video takes care of every kind of film fan, from classic drama to scifi comedy from westerns to independent features, exploitation to grind house. old to new. They have everybody covered. One of the newest releases for Arrow Video is a Russian independent film entitled "Why don't you just die."

The film follows Matvey who has just one objective: to gain entry to his girlfriend's parents' apartment and kill her father Andrey with a hammer to restore her honor. But all attempts
to do so don't go quite according to plan as Andrey proves a more formidable -- not to mention ruthless -- opponent than he anticipated... and Matvey, for his part, proves stubbornly unwilling to die.

The film is extremely violent, but it is played in a very comedic way.
The horrific action is shot in such a fast paced speed you hardly have time to take a breath. Everything is done in a very playful way to make it fun and take away from the over the top goriness. Does it work? Yes, in a way. But if your like me you may think it is a little too much.

I have to say that the film is shot beautifully and it is a masterful job of story telling. Writer / Director
Kirill Sokolov shows the promise with this his first feature film of having the style of a
Quentin Tarantino.

As always Arrow Video does a remarkable job with the transfer. It is presented in High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and is in original lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and PCM 2.0 stereo soundtracks. It is in Russian, but no fear there is optional English subtitles. But as we all know Arrow Video doesn't stop their they load this disc with bonus features.

Special Features:
* Brand new interview with author and critic Kim Newman, exploring Why Don t You Just Die! within the context of the long-standing tradition of single location cinema

* Exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from rehearsals and the film set

Arrow Video knows that movie collectors love there bonus features and as you can see there is some good ones here. I think what is probably the coolest feature here is the addition of the short films from Kirill Sokolov. This is a jammed packed release.
