So in 20206 take an unconventional director and pair him with one of Britain's greatest actors Sir Ian McKellen and what do you get? You get a film entitled The Christophers. Now physical media fans can own this film on Blu-ray.
Synopsis: A mainstay of the London art scene since his starry breakout in the creative explosion of the 1960’s, Julian Sklar (Ian McKellen) has drifted into a cluttered, self-imposed seclusion. His two estranged children (James Corden, Jessica Gunning) enlist Lori (Michaela Coel), a young painter and sometime-forger, to pose as a prospective assistant and gain access to a fabled series of unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in his home studio, in a deceptive bid to secure an inheritance for themselves.
Ian McKellen still has a commanding presence on screen even though he is heading towards his 90th birthday in just a few years. Director Steven Soderbergh proves time and time again you don't need a huge 300 million dollar budget to make a good film. You just need a good script and a good cast.
The Christophers has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio options are English DTS-HD MA 5.1 and an English Descriptive track in 2.0. There are options for subtitles in English, French and Spanish.
The Blu-ray transfer of The Christophers is really nice. The picture is crisp and clean, there is no signs of digital artifacts or audio anomalies. And as for bonus features, well, at least there is something on this disc. Included is a Conversation with Screenwriter De Solomon and Charlie Kaufman and the film's trailer. Yes, it is a bit on the skimpy side, but at least it is something.
