Now on of my favorite Harryhausen films has to be The 7th Voyage of Sinbad. Released in 1958 this film is rapidly approaching it's 70th anniversary. That is hard to fathom. So Sony Picture home Entertainment have restored and released this classic adventure on 4K for the first time ever.
Synopsis: The legendary Sinbad (Kerwin Mathews) sets off on a dangerous journey to the mysterious Island of Colossus to break the spell cast over his beloved princess (Kathryn Grant) by a diabolical magician (Torin Thatcher). Before he can save her, Sinbad must battle an awesome collection of mythical monsters: the man-eating Cyclops, a saber-wielding skeleton, a ferocious two-headed bird called the Roc and a fire-breathing dragon, all animated by the stunning visual effects mastery of Ray Harryhausen.
The story is tight knit and the action is great. The acting is perfect for the 1950s fantasy adventure. And Harryhausen's special effect in this film are second to none. The cyclops, dragon and other creatures really bring this mythical world to life.
The 7th Voyage of Sinbad has been transferred to 4k in 2160p and is presented in it's original 1.66:1 aspect ratio. There are three audio options to choose from. An English and French track in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and a Spanish track in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for subtitles in Englosh, French and Spanish.
To be completely honest I was a bit skeptical about how stop motion animation would look in 4K UltraHD. But I am pleased to announce that Harryhausen's creatures and effects look simply amazing in UltraHD.
Now in addition to a wonderful looking restoration on 4K and Blu-ray this set also includes a digital copy that can be redeemed on your Movies Anywhere account. Then there is the on disc bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

Sony Home Entertainment really loaded up this release with tons of archived material to make this release something special. While this is not the 70th anniversary yet this is a release worth of a 70th anniversary celebration.
