Boris Karloff Collection

Reviewed By: Jason Lockard

Ever since Boris Karloff made the first growling sounds as the Frankenstein monster in 1931, he has been a part of our nightmares. Playing mad scientists, creepy barons, Egyptian mummies and so many more. Clear up to the end he was entertaining fans with new tales of terror.

Now the great folks at VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual are bringing us a collection of the final four horror films in the career of this Horror Hall of Famer, This Legend of Alarm, This Icon of Fright, with The Boris Karloff Collection. Let's take a look at the films included on this 2 disc DVD set.

Our Rating System:
**** = Don’t Miss it!
*** = Worth a look.
** = An OK way to spend an evening.
* = You haven’t missed anything.

Disc One

Death Dance (1968) Also known as "House of Evil"
An old patriarch calls his descendants to the ancestral mansion to expose the psychotic killer in their midst. **

Torture Zone (1968) Also known as "Fear Chamber" follows a cop who has spent years tracking a psychotic killer that harvests young girls' organs for profit. He  must overcome his inner demons to stop the devilish culprit. **

Disc Two

Cult of the Dead (1971) Also known as "Isle of the Snake People" An e
vil scientist leads a veritable army of LSD crazed zombies. **

Alien Terror (1971)
Also known as "The Incredible Invasion"
A professor and his helper must stop a killer, the byproduct of a sinister invasion. **

These four films made in Mexico gave Boris a chance to make one final payday to provide for his family, and who can blame him for that. While not Boris Karloff's best films are his final films and are a piece of cinema history, and still feature Boris' British charm.

This 2 disc DVD set has two films on each disc. The films are presented in 1.33:1 full frame. The films included are TV edited versions and run around 72 minutes each. While this maybe a bit of a bummer for some fans,  none of Karloff scenes seem to be cut. And a huge plus, the film transfers look and sound better than any copies of the films I've seen anywhere.

So if you are a horror hound or just love some Boris Karloff, this is a must own collection. Head over to www.MVDshop.com and get your copy today.
