The Owl and Bumbo (88 Films Blu-ray Review)

Sammo Hung is an Asian comedy genius. He has been in many films and has the ability to do comedy, but also physical stunt in martial arts films, making him a dual threat. 88 Film released on Blu-ray his film Where's Officer Tuba? on Blu-ray.

But that was not all; 88 Films also released The Owl vs. Bumbo on deluxe Blu-ray. Now Asian film lovers and physical media fanatics can add this ultra-fun film to their home video library.

Synopsis: Chan (Sammo Hung, The Prodigal Son) and Wong (George Lam, King of Beggars) AKA Bumbo and The Owl, believe their criminal days are behind them. However, their pasts come back to haunt them when ex-cop Chung (Shui-Fan Fung, Wheels on Meals) returns to blackmail them. At his behest, the pair find themselves teaching at a reform school. But how long can their earlier criminal lives stay in the past.

Sammo Hung and George Lam are really fun together. Their comedic timing is really good. The laughs and action are non-stop. But this film is more than just a fun film; this is the film debut of the Oscar Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once).

88 Films has restored this film in 2K from the original negatives. The film has been transferred in 1080p and is presented in a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is the newly remastered Cantonese Monoaural Soundtrack with newly translated English Subtitles.

88 Films restorations are always impressive and this one is no different. The picture quality is simply stellar. The colors are bright and vibrant and the flesh tones are correct. There are no signs of damage to this print that I witnessed in screening this film. But a great restoration is not all that is included on this Blu-ray. 88 Films added some nice bonus features.

Bonus Materials:
* O-Ring Slip Case With New Artwork By Sean Longmore
* Audio Commentary by Hong Kong Film Expert David West
* Those Who Kam-Bo Teach - Ricky Baker on The Owl VS Bumbo

Now, as we have seen with "Where's Officer Tuba?" Blu-ray the packaging is a standout. 88 Films makes this Blu-ray stand out in the crowd. Sean Longmore's artwork is special, something that you would love to see hanging on your wall. This Blu-ray is more than just a movie; it is a work of art.
