Elvis Presley shines as King Creole Now on 4K/Blu-ray

August 16, 1977 was a day that music fans will never forget. That day was the day Elvis Presley died. We would never get to see him live in concert again. There would be no more new recordings. No new feature films. That was indeed a huge loss.

This year (2026) is the 49th Anniversary of his passing. Kino Lorber Studio Classics has released one of Elvis Presley's best films on 4K UltraHD / Blu-ray. That film is King Creole. 

Synopsis: Elvis plays a troubled youth whose singing sets the French Quarter rockin'. With a sweet girl to love him and nightclubbers cheering, it looks like he'll shake off his past and head for the top. But a mobster (Walter Matthau, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three) and his man-trap moll (Carolyn Jones TV's The Addams Family) could snare him into a life of crime.

In King Creole, Elvis reads his wings and shows that if he was given the opportunity, he could have been an award-winning actor. But Colonel Parker and Hal Wallis relegated him to film fluff. That's a shame. But this film serves as a shining light to what he could do given the opportunity. Plus Walter Matthau and Carolyn Jones are perfect support in this film. 

King Creole has been transferred to 4K in 2160p and Blu-ray in 1080p the film is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track options are for an English 5.1 surround sound and a lossless 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard og hearing.

This is not just any 4k transfer; this is sourced from the simply remarkable 2000 Paramount Pictures 4k scan of the 35mm original camera negative. The clarity of this transfer is mind-blowing. King Creole has never looked better than what  I witnessed on this 4K disc.

Okay, so the bonus features are a bit light on this release. We get an audio commentary, a Leonard Maltin interview and a trailer. But it is better than nothing. Plus the real reason to buy this 4K is for the 4k restoration.
