Tetsuo: The Bullet Man (Unearthed Films Blu-ray Review)

When I look at the history of cinema, there are two films that stand out to me that deal with revenge. Those films are The Crow and Darkman. These two films are iconic. Pretty much everyone has seen these films. And they stay with you. 

In 2009, director Shinya Tsukamoto brought American audiences Tetsuo: The Bullet Man, a dark story of revenge. This standalone thriller is based on his two previous Japanese films Tetsuo: The Iron Man and Tetsuo II: Body Hammer. Now Unearthed Classics has released this film on Blu-ray for the first time ever.

Synopsis: Anthony is a bland and cautious American office worker living in Tokyo with nothing exceptional about him. Or so he thinks. When his young son is killed, Anthony begins a violent and bizarre metamorphosis, his flesh transforming into metal, his body expressing his repressed rage and lust for revenge. Anthony is becoming the weapon that will destroy the man who killed his son and, if his rage cannot be contained, the entire city in the process. 

Tetsuo The Bullet Man is a film like nothing I've seen before. I mean that in a good way. The frantic action keeps you on the edge of your seat and the special effects are a callback to 90s cinema, which I love. Tetsuo: The Bullet Man is a film you should see if you love revenge films.

Unearthed Films have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.77:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Unearthed Films did a great job with this transfer. There is no digital artifacts or audio anomalies. The picture is clean, really enhancing the gritty feel of this thriller. The Bonus features are a little light on this release. I would have liked to see some more material. However, the Multi Material Version is truly something to witness. It really takes you behind the scenes of the way this film was made in a way I have never seen before. A truly nice bonus feature.
