We have seen films like Married to the Mob, The Freshman, My Blue Heaven, Mafia! and Some Like It Hot. In 1998 comedy legends Rodney Dangerfield and Dom DeLuise come together for a spoof comedy entitled "The Godson". Shoreline Entertainment have now released this film on Blu-ray for the first time ever.
Synopsis: After the death of the family's mob boss, a grieving father sends his inexperienced son to Mafia University, hoping to prepare him for the criminal world and secure the family's legacy. With nods to The Godfather, this crime-family comedy throws the young heir into absurd situations, eccentric mentors, and over-the-top mob antics.
Alongside Rodney Dangerfield and Dom DeLuise the film stars Kevin MacDonald. Kevin is probably best known for his time with The Kid in the Hall. But he is quite the busy actor even working to this day as a popular voice actor.
Like all spoof comedies, The Godson story is completely off the wall. This spoof is not on the level of the films listed at the beginning of this review. Not by a longshot, but it is entertaining. And after all if you are going to watch a film, that's what you are going in for to be entertained.
Shoreline Entertainment have transferred The Godson to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format. The audio track is an English Dolby Digital 2.0. There is no option for English subtitles. That is a shame.
This Blu-ray transfer is okay. It looks and sound good for the most part. But in all honestly there were a couple imperfections in the picture. And as for bonus features there are none. That is hugely disappointing. But beyond that there is not even a Blu-ray menu. Pop the disc in, and it starts playing. Totally disappointing to me.
