Force: Five (1981) Blu-ray Review – MVD Rewind Collection Delivers ’80s Martial Arts Mayhem in HD

Robert Clouse was best known for his martial arts films he directed. Most notably he directed Bruce Lee in Lee's second English film 1973's Enter the Dragon. He also directed Jackie Chan in 1980 in The Big Brawl.

In 1981 he wrote and directed Force: Five, which just happens to be a loose remake of the 1976 Jim Kelly action film, Hot Potato. Now the good folks at MVD Rewind Collection have taken this action film and given it a retro Blu-ray treatment.

Synopsis: A powerful and dangerous cult, hidden on a remote island fortress, has brainwashed the daughter of a U.S. senator. With local authorities powerless and time running out, the government turns to a highly specialized team of martial arts experts known as 'Force: Five.' Led by seasoned agent Jim Martin, the team includes five elite fighters, each with unique combat skills--from unarmed street-fighting and karate to high-impact kickboxing. Their mission: infiltrate the island compound, uncover the secrets of the cult's charismatic and manipulative leader, and rescue the senator's daughter before she becomes permanently indoctrinated--or worse.

One thing is for sure Robert Clouse knows how to make a martial arts film. That is without a doubt. Here with Force: Five he deviates from what he does so well and makes a comedy martial arts film. Some things works, others not so much. But if you just sit back and enjoy the absurdity, you will have fun with this film.

MVD has transferred Force: Five to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio track is an English LPCM 2.0 Mono Audio. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

MVD Rewind Collection has done another wonderful job in this Blu-ray transfer of this 80s cult classic. Force: Five looks and sounds great in HD. Plus with all MVD Rewind Collection releases. There is some really cool bonus features. Take a look at what is included.

Bonus Materials
* Archival Interview with actor Joe Lewis (50:08)
* Archival Interview with Benny Urquidez (8:59)
* Archival 'Benny Urquidez Fight' featurette (6:41)
* Original Theatrical Trailer (HD)
* Collectible Mini-Poster
* Limited Edition Slipcover (First Pressing Only)

Along with the interviews, featurettes and more. I loved the slipcover. It is reminiscent of a VHS Tape cover that you would get at a video rental store. Complete with "Be Kind Rewind" and "Previously Viewed". As a kid I remember going to the video stores on the weekend with my mom and dad and renting videos for the weekend. Seeing these kind of releases take me back to my childhood. Great memories.... priceless.

Okay so Force: Five is not a great martial arts film, but it is a fun film. And after all we go to the movies to be entertained, and I believe Force: Five will entertain you. So if Force: Five sounds like a Blu-ray you would like to add to your home video library you can head over to MVD Shop or Amazon and order your copy today.

Out of 4 films reels (4 being the best) the Blu-ray of Force: Five receives.....
