Gene Hackman was an Oscar award winning actor and novelist. Sadly Gene Hackman was found dead, along with his wife, Besty Arakawa and their dog, in their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on February 26, 2025. He was 95. Tragically it was discovered that he passed away on February 17, 2025.

We now know more about the couple's passing. According to officials Gene Hackman died of heart disease and his wife died of rodent-borne Illness.

During Gene Hackman's amazing career, he starred in many great films. On this special Classic Cinema+ tribute we will look at some of our favorite films he was in.

The Poseidon Adventure (1972) A group of passengers embark on an adventure for survival after a wave capsizes their cruise ship at sea.

Superman (1978) An alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.

Superman II (1980) Superman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth.

Hoosiers (1986) A coach with a checkered past and a local drunk train a small-town high school basketball team to become a top contender for the state championship in 1950s Indiana.

Now these are just some of my favorite Gene Hackman there are so many classics, The French Connection, Bonnie and Clyde, Young Frankenstein, Eureka, Unforgiven, The Quick and the Dead, Wyatt Earp,

When you think of live action Lex Luthor's they don't get much better than Gene Hackman's performance in Superman 1, 2 and 4. But his amazing performances on film are countless.

It is sad to know that the Gene Hackman is gone, but he has left a legacy on film that will never be forgotten. The characters he put on film will live forever. And generation to come will marvel at his acting skills.

R.I.P. Gene Hackman
