Trick or Treat will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2026. But before that landmark anniversary Synapse Films and Red Shirt Home Video have released this film on an epic 4K release. Now cult movie fans and physical media lovers can enjoy this film for years to come on home video.
Synopsis: Eddie ''Ragman Weinbauer (Marc Price, Family Ties), a teenage outcast who idolizes Sammi Curr (Tony Fields, A Chorus Line), a heavy metal superstar. After Sammi dies a violent death, his spirit returns to help Eddie get even with his high school tormentors. In doing so, Sammi begins to gain control over Eddie's life and brings him deeper into the world of the occult. When Eddie realizes that he has become the tool of Sammi's vengeance, he attempts to stop him, and the horrifying events that follow leave no one unscathed.
This film will give you the perfect balance of screams of terror and screams of laughter. This film could easily have become a horror parody. But it avoids that trap perfectly. It is a truly entertaining film.
Marc Price was an interesting choice for this film, when you think he was playing the squeaky-clean nerd Skippy on TV's Family Ties. He is pretty amazing as Ragman. Also, Tony Fields is a tremendous casting choice as Sammi Curr. But really look out for special appearances by Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne. Especially Ozzie, his appearance must be seen to be believed!
This film has been transferred to 4K in 2160p and is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options a lossless English DTS-HD Master Audio of the original 2.0 theatrical mix and an all-new 5.1 surround sound mix. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This 4K transfer is taken from a 4K restoration from the original 35mm camera negative mastered in Dolby Vision (HDR10 compatible) and approved by Director of Photography Robert Elswit. Looking at this 4K restoration it is simply amazing. While screening this film I was impressed with the colors and there is not a sign of damage found anywhere.
Now in addition to a simply amazing looking 4K transfer Synapse Films loaded this disc with tons of bonuses that will give cult movie fans something to shout about. Take a look at what is included on this disc.
