The Shaw Brothers are responsible for some of the most popular Kung Fu movies in history. So now it is time or another Shaw Brothers Kung-fu film to get it's time to shine on Blu-ray. This time around it is 1979's The Kung-Fu Instructor.
Synopsis: In this bitterly divided town, there's no middle ground; you're either with one side or the other - cross the line and face dire consequences. One clan hires a kung fu master - played by the great Ti Lung (A Better Tomorrow) - to break the stalemate, but he's nobody's servant and his loyalties can't be bought so easily.
There is no denying that Director Chung Sun and Writer Kuang Ni's film The Kung Fu Instructor was inspired by Kurosawa's Yojimbo and Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars. The artistic cinematography by Lam Nai-Choi and a wonderful musical score by Eddie Wang really enhances this film. This is a great piece of kung-fu cinema.
The Kung Fu Instructor has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. You can enjoy this film in lossless 2.0 original Mandarin audio or English dubbed audio. There are also English subtitles. But this isn't just any transfer this transfer is brough to us from the original camera negative.
This film looks pretty amazing on Blu-ray. And I love the inclusion of the English dub. I grew up on these bad English dubs so to me these are always a welcome bonus. On disc bonus features include the trailer and still gallery. There is also a beautiful slipcover with brand new artwork from 17th & Oak, Four Collector's art cards and a reversible Blu-ray insert featuring the original Hong Kong poster.
All the artwork really makes this release so much better. I enjoy the art cards and I love the reversible Blu-ray insert that includes the original poster. It's so cool to remove the slipcover and reveal the original poster art. Too Cool!
