The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (2015) Arrow Video Blu-ray Review

In the 1960s and 70s the spy genre was so over that there were a bunch of films and TV shows. We saw James Bond, Our Man Flint and Matt Helm films. In TV we got such shows as I Spy, The Avengers (British show), Mission Impossible, the hilarious Get Smart and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The Man From U.N.C.L.E. was an extremely popular one.

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie stormed on the film scene with "Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels". He would go one to revive Sherlock Holmes with the help of Robert Downy Jr. But in 2015 he would revive yet again. This time the classic TV show The Man From U.N.C.L.E. But this time in a major motion picture!

Synopsis: 1963: in the thick of the Cold War, roguish CIA agent Napoleon Solo (Henry Cavill, Mission: Impossible - Fallout) forms an uneasy alliance with brooding KGB officer Illya Kuryakin (Armie Hammer, Call Me by Your Name) to thwart a criminal organization with apocalyptic intentions. The rebellious daughter of a missing nuclear scientist (Alicia Vikander, Ex Machina) is their only ticket inside the sinister ring - but to whom is she truly loyal? A desperate race against time will determine whether the scientist's atomic research will shatter the delicate balance of power in the world.

It is always a huge task when you are remaking a classic. It is one thing I would never want to do. No matter how good of a film you make there will always be something someone doesn't like about it. Now Guy Ritchie gets a great cast together lead by Superman himself, Henry Cavill and included, Alicia Vikander (Lara Croft), Elizabeth Debicki (Diana Princess of Wales), Hugh Grant (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Jared Harris (Mad Men) and Sylvester Groth (Netflix's Fargo).

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. is a love letter to the original series. I like the fact that they kept the storyline in the 1960s. Though some of the 60s dialogue can seem a bit forced at times. The action is good. For the faults this film has it is still a solid little thrilling spy adventure film.

Arrow Video have transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p. The film is presented in widescreen format and the audio track is a
lossless Dolby Atmos sound. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

This is a really nice looking transfer. The picture is crisp and there is no signs of digital artifacts. The audio is clean. But a tremendous looking copy of the films is not all that Arrow Video added to this Blu-ray. Take a look at what they included as bonus features.

* Brand new audio commentary by critics Bryan Reesman and Max Evry
* The Hollywood Way brand new interview with co-writer/producer Lionel Wigram
* A Lineage of Bad Guys brand new interview with actor Luca Calvani
* Legacy of U.N.C.L.E. brand new featurette celebrating the original 1960s TV series and its influence on the 2015 movie, featuring Helen McCarthy, David Flint and Vic Pratt

* Spy Vision: Recreating 60s Cool, A Higher Class of Hero, Metisse Motorcycles: Proper and Very British, The Guys from U.N.C.L.E. and A Man of Extraordinary Talents five archival featurettes exploring the making of the film

* Theatrical trailer

* Illustrated collector's booklet featuring new writing by Barry Forshaw, and a reprinted article from CODEX Magazine on the film's cinematography

I love the video featurettes that Arrow Video always add to their releases. There are so much fun. And the addition of a new audio commentary and interview
Lionel Wigram and so much more. Arrow Video created another amazing release that film fans will want to add to their collections.

Now there is no denying that this feature film is not the original TV Series. For me there is nothing like the classics. But I can appreciate the adventure. That is why I watch all the Mission Impossible films, but still feel the TV Series is always the best. But that doesn't mean you can not enjoy the films.

So if you love spy pictures like Mission Impossible, you defiantly need to check out The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Head over to Amazon and order your copy of Arrow Video's release of the
