Cary Grant The Man He Dreamed of Being: DVD Review

His name was Archibald Leech. That name doesn't really scream Hollywood star. But he has starred in every kind of genre of film you can think of. He was nominated for Oscars, was directed by one of the greatest directors in cinema history Alfred Hitchcock. If you haven't guessed it by now, its Cary Grant.

I loved watching him in some of his early comedies like, Mr. B\landings builds his dream house, Arsenic and Old Lace, Monkey Business, Bringing up Baby, and Operation Petticoat. He thrilled in films like To Catch a Thief and North by Northwest. Then in his later career he aged gracefully in amazing films like Houseboat, Father Goose and An Affair to Remember.

In 2022 Sebastian Perez-Pezzani made a film that tracked the life of Cary Grant. But in addition this film did a deep dive into the man he really wanted to be. Now Deskpop Entertainment have released this documentary on DVD.

The True Story of Cary Grant: From Acrobat To Icon. Explore the meteoric rise of 'Archibald' Leach', better known as 'Cary Grant', from his life as a young acrobat on Broadway to one of America's most beloved actors in Hollywood.

I have seen Cary Grant biographies before. And granted most is what you have heard before in other biographies. But without spoiling the film, it is the way the film is spun. Showing the life and times of Cary Grant that his whole life he was chasing one dream, and it wasn't Hollywood fame. That was amazing.

Barbara Weber does a tremendous job narrating this film.
Sebastian Perez-Pezzani edited this film perfectly using film clips and archival footage and pictures. The film runs 55 minutes, but it is a fast 55 minutes. Watching this film the time went by so fast, it seemed half that time.

The film has been transferred to DVD in widescreen format and the audio is a 5.1 surround sound. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. Now some of the footage is rough, but that is to be expected. The film itself is a great transfer.

This DVD release doesn't include any bonus features. I wish there was an interview with the director Sebastian Perez-Pezzani enlightening us on way he wanted to make this film. That would have made this release so much better.

In addition, the DVD is a Made-On-Demand disc and not a pressed disc. I wished this was a pressed discs as they are more durable and have a longer life expectancy. But if you store your burned disc properly, they should last a very long time.

So if you love good documentaries or are a fan of Cary Grant this new release Cary Grant The Man He Dreamed of Being is a must own. Order your copy of the DVD by heading over to Amazon today!
