Beauty of Beauties (1965) 88 Films Blu-ray Review

88 Films have been bringing some of the foreign films to home video for American audiences and doing a great job of it as well. We have seen such releases as The Inspector Wears Skirts, The Inspector Wears Skirts 2, The Long Arm of the Law 1 & 2, and In The Line of Duty.

Now it is time for the next deluxe Blu-ray release from 88 Films. This time it is the 1965 award winning historical drama The Beauty of Beauties.

The King of Yueh, Goujian (Lei Zhao), is defeated and imprisoned by the King of Wu, Fucha (Mu Chu). But when Goujian returns to his much-maligned homeland, he is determined to defeat Wu once and for all, with a secret weapon: a local beauty named Xi Si (Ching Chiang), who is sent to serve Fucha and lure him to his doom.

The Beauty of Beauties swept the Golden Horse Awards winning for best feature film, director, actor, color cinematography, and art direction. And it is no wonder. It is a fascinating historical tale. I would consider this film the Asian version of Cleopatra. And for me that is some high praise!

Beauty of Beauties has been transferred to Blu-ray
in 2.39:1 aspect ratio. The audio soundtrack in a 2.0 Original Mandarin Mono. There are also newly translated English subtitles. Now the best part of this transfer is that it features a brand new 4K Remaster.

The new 4K remaster really brings the film to life. If you have never seen this film before this is the perfect way to witness it for the first time. If you have seen it before, why not check it out in pristine condition.

Now as we all know by now 88 Films are not just going to put out a gorgeous looking transfer of a film on a disc and leave it be.... oh no! They always add some cool bonuses to their releases. Take a look at what is included in this deluxe Blu-ray release.
