Colt 45 The Complete Series: Blu-ray Review

When you think of TV Westerns most people think Gunsmoke or Bonanza. But there have been some amazing westerns on TV throughout the years. Warner Brothers brought Cheyenne to the small screen which paved the way for more TV westerns.

In 1957 a TV series entitled Colt 45 debuted. This series was a loose adaption of the 1950 film of the same name. Now for years western fans have wanted a physical media release, but to no avail. Well, wait no more Warner Archive at long last has restored and released Colt 45 The Complete Series on Blu-ray!

The series followed Christopher Colt (Wayde Preston) a man working undercover on assignment for the U.S. Army Intelligence Corps. Christopher Colt poses as a gun salesman, but his real purpose is tracking down bad guys.

The series lasted 3 seasons and 67 episodes. This series was so good. After 13 episodes in 2 seasons there was a contract dispute with Wayde Preston. This caused Warner Brothers to be forced to repeat airing of Season 2 episodes to fill out the season run. This caused a major drop-off in viewership. When the contract dispute was resolved and Wayde returned to the series for season 3 the damage had been done. The writing was on the wall season 3 was as far as this series would go!

Season 1: Judgement Day / A Time to Die / The Three Thousand Dollar Bullet /
Gallows at Granite Gap / Small Man / Final Payment / One Good Turn / Last Chance / Young Gun / Rebellion / The Gypsies / Sign in the Sand / The Mirage / Blood Money / Dead Reckoning / Decoy / Rare Specimen / Mantrap / Ghost Town /Golden Gun / Circle of Fear / Split Second / Point of Honor / The Deserters / The Manbuster / Long Odds

Season 2:

Season 3:
Queen of Dixie / The Reckoning / The Devil's Godson / The Rival Gun / The Hothead / A Legend of Buffalo Bill / Yellow Terror / Tar and Feathers / Alias Mr. Howard / Calamity / Under False Pretenses / Impasse / Arizona Anderson / The Cause / Phantom Trail / Breakthrough / Chain of Command / Alibi / Absent Without Leave / Strange Encounter / Trial by Rope / The Gandy Dancers / Martial Law / Attack / Bounty List / Appointment in Agoura / Showdown at Goldtown / The Trespasser

Physical media fans would have been happy with Colt 45 on DVD. But Warner Archive Collection have remastered this complete series in 4K from the original negatives. Talk about amazing!

These episodes have been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in this 10 Blu-ray disc set. They are presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There is also the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now this series has never seen a physical media release, so there is really nothing to compare it to. But to be honest episodes look stunning. There is no damage to these episodes. They are crisp and clean, and the audio is clear with no hiss or pops.

It would have been easy to release these episodes without remastering them. But Warner Archive deserves a ton of credit for making these episodes look so amazing! For the first physical media release of Colt 45 of series to be this great... remarkable!

There is no bonus features. But let's be honest here we get 67 episodes on 10 Blu-ray dics, restored in 4k and looking amazing. To me that is more than enough to make this a must own.
