Hallow Man (2000) Walmart Exclusive Steelbook Review

Universal Monster movies have always been popular. One of the films that have inspired many remakes and TV shows was that of the Invisible Man. The film was based on a novel by H.G. Wells.

In 2000 Kevin Bacon joined a pretty impressive cast for a new version of The Invisible Man tale. The film was entitled Hallow Man. Mill Creek Entertainment have been releasing some impressive Walmart Exclusive Steelbooks of such films as Anaconda, I Know What You Did Last Summer and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. Now it is time for Hallow Man to shine on Steelbook!

Sabastien Caine heads a top-secret research project to unlock the secret of invisibility. When the formula works successfully on animals, an ecstatic Caine recklessly disobeys orders and experiments on himself. The invisible Caine, fueled by latent megalomaniac tendencies, quickly becomes intoxicated with his new-found power.

Hallow Man is what you would expect from a film about an invisible man. There is no breaking of new ground.  Kevin Bacon really plays the part of the scientist gone insane greatly. Where this film really shine is in the special effects. We are used to seeing the man become invisible, but here we she the transformation from flesh to bones to organs to invisible. Simply amazing.

Paul Verhoeven directed some amazing sci-fi films in his career. He brought us such films as RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990) and Starship Troopers (1997).  Paul brought his directing expertise to this film. Paul steers this sci-fi ship through the tumultuous film sea right to the promised shore line.

Now while the classic Universal monster movie The Invisible Man is pretty safe for the whole family. This one is not by any means. This is a completely adult film. It is filled with adult language, intense scenes of violence, sexual content including nudity. So, viewer beware!

Mill Creek Entertainment has transferred this film to Blu-ray in 1080p and the film is presented in 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1. Finally, there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

In addition to a crisp and clean copy of this film. Mill Creek Entertainment added a brand new Interview, entitled Full Transparency: Scoring Hallow Man, a full interview with Jery Goldsmith the biographer of composer Jeff Bond.

The new bonus feature is great, I just wished they would have ported over all the bonus features from the previous release. That would make this release a must own. To have all the bonus features included in the amazing looking Steelbook that would have been tremendous!

Where Steelbooks really stand out is in the artwork that is included. On a Blu-ray you usually get the Blu-ray insert, maybe a slipcover a times. But on a Steelbook. There is amazing front and back artwork and inside artwork. And the fact that this is a Steelbook, it is made to last, that is very cool!

So if you enjoy sci-fi horror or are a fan of Kevin Bacon films this new Steelbook of Hallow Man may be just the ticket for adventure that you are looking for. Head over to your local Walmart or to Walmart.com and order your copy today.
