Mill Creek Entertainment and Walmart have joined forces to bring us physical media fans exclusive Steelbook releases. We have seen Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Anaconda and Hallow Man. But this time around we are talking the teen slasher I know what you did last summer.
It's the Fourth of July, and Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has won a beauty contest, to the delight of handsome boyfriend Barry (Ryan Phillippe); her best friend, the smart and ambitious Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt); and Julie's boyfriend, Ray (Freddie Prinze, Jr.). After celebrating at an isolated beach, they head for home, but their revelry leads to an accident-they've killed a pedestrian. Scared and confused, they come to an uneasy decision to push the body off a pier. The four friends swear to take their secret to their graves. But that time may come a lot sooner than they think.
The story is so well written, borrowing the theme for the campfire story we have all heard through the years. All these actors in this film would go on to have successful careers. Many people just think of this film as a Scream rip-off, nothing could be farther from the truth. While there are similarities, in reality what slasher film couldn't be compared to another one. The four stars of this film really are great together. The kills are a slashing good time.
Mill Creek Entertainment have transferred this cult classic to Blu-ray in 1080p and is presented in widescreen format in is in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The audio is an English DTS-HD Master Audio Stereo. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.
This transfer is solid to say the least. The picture is crisp and the colors are vibrant. There are no digital artifacts that I could see. The audio is clear, but missing the quality of a 5.1 surround sound track!
Now for bonus features, this Steelbook features a brand new interview with Composer John Debney entitled "I Know How You Scored Last Summer". In this 20 minute interview John talks in detail how he got the job of scoring this film, his influences and mindset in bring the sound to this cult classic. If it a very interesting interview. Worth watching!
The new bonus feature is great! The only thing I wish they would have done is port overall the bonus features from the 2022 release. That would make this release the be all end all for this film. To have all the bonus features included in the amazing looking Steelbook that would have been tremendous!
Even though this release does miss out on all the other bonus features. This is still a very nice release. The beautiful artwork on this Steelbook makes this is a piece of art. Steelbook collectors will want to add this to their Steelbook wall!
