Far Haven (2023) Mill Creek Entertainment DVD Review

Westerns in the 1950s and 60s were huge business. It seemed like there were more westerns being churned out than any other kind of film. But it seemed like there was an oversaturation of the western genre and so those types of films began to decrease in volume.

Well, here recently there have been a bit of an upswing in western productions. And the ones that I have seen have been very good! So, when I heard of the new western featuring Bruce Boxleitner entitled Far Haven I was All In for this one. Now Mill Creek Entertainment are releasing this western on DVD for physical media fans to own!

In 1887, after serving two years in prison, wrongfully accused Hunter Braddock — a virtuous man with a complex past — moves back to the Arizona town of Far Haven to start over with his two young children. But when his father-in-law is brutally attacked by unknown raiders, Braddock must take on the corrupt forces strangling Far Haven to protect what he loves most.

Now while Far Haven is a faith-based western it does not feature overtly preachy overtones. It should be noted this film is not for the whole family. There is war scene, violence with guns and arrows including killings. The acting is very believable, and the direction of Gary Wheeler really takes the viewer back in time to the old west. The theme is something we all could use more of, forgiveness.

The cast is filled with some very familiar faces, including; Bailey Chase (Longmire), Amanda Righetti (The OC, The Mentalist), Chris Mulkey (Broken Trail, Captain Phillips), A Martinez (Longmire), Martin Kove (The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai), Bruce Boxleitner (Tron, Babylon 5) and look out for Ralph Malph from Happy Days, Don Most.

The film has been transferred to DVD it is presented in widescreen format in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. The audio is a Stereo 5.1 and there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This transfer looks really good. The picture is crisp and clean and there are no digital artifacts. As for bonus features there is an "Inside Look" featurette and trailers for other films, Legal Action, The Warrant, The Legend of the 5 Mile Cave, Country Line: No Fear.

If you are looking for a film that is entertaining, informative and that can be a discussion starter, Far Haven would be right up your alley. And the film is good enough to revisit later, thus the reason to own it on physical media.

If you love faith-based dramas and westerns this gives you the best of both world. Head over to
