Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Visual brought physical media fans Shin Ultraman now they are releasing another Asian film, this time the superhero film Lion-Girl. This new film is based on characters created by Japanese manga legend Go Nagai.
In the year 20XX, mysterious meteors bombard the Earth and usher in an age of horrific beasts known as 'ANOROC', hunting and killing humans for their life force. The Earth has one last defender against them; her name is 'LION-GIRL'.
The imagery and the action of Lion-Girl is pretty impressive! It is gritty yet the colors are bright and vibrant! But make no mistake about it Lion-Girl is an extremely adult superhero film. There is a lot of nudity, violence and profanity. This is not a film for the family! It is interesting to note that the film was shot in Los Angeles during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown!
The Lion-Girl cast includes Tori Griffith (“Wake Up,” “Princess of the Row”) as the titular Lion-Girl, Derek Mears, known for his roles in comic book adaptations such as The CW’s “Swamp Thing” series, Damian TooFeek Raven (“The Chadwick Journals”), David Sakurai (“Fantastic Beasts”), Shelby Lee Parks (“Good Trouble”), Matt Standley (“Fairyland”), and Joey Iwanaga (“Enter the Fat Dragon”).
Lion-Girl has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in widescreen format. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. This transfer is clean with no signs of digital artifacts. But a nice transfer is not all that this Blu-ray release has going for it! There are some cool bonus features. In all honesty for me the film would have been great without all the profanity and nudity! It seemed unnecessary to the plot, that is my humble opinion. And thus, without all the offensive material more families could sit down and enjoy the female superhero Lion-Girl.
With a great transfer, commentary, interview, making if featurette and more, MVD Visual and Cleopatra Entertainment made a Blu-ray release that fans of Asian Superhero cinema will be clamoring for.
