Shin Ultraman (2022) Blu-ray Review

Cleopatra Entertainment, MVD Visual, Bluray,
Ultraman is one of the Japanese imports here in America that the U.S. audiences seem to just love.  It seems the more we get the more we want. The classic Ultraman have been released on Blu-ray over the last couple years much to the delight of physical media fans. But what about new adventure of Ultraman?

A couple of years ago filmmaker Shinji Higuchi decided to make a new trilogy of some of the classic character in the Japanese heroes universe. In 2016 he released his first film entitled "Shin Godzilla". In 2022 he released to Japanese audiences the 2nd in the trilogy "Shin Ultraman".

Now it is time for American audiences to marvel in the awesome kaiju action and the adventure of Japan's favorite superhero Ultraman. Thanks to Cleopatra Entertainment and MVD Visual we can own this new classic on Blu-ray or DVD which ever your prefer.

There's never a dull day on Japan's newly established SSSP Kaiju defense taskforce, led by Kimio Tamura (Hidetoshi Nishijima, Drive My Car). After a particularly challenging encounter, a silver giant descends from the sky to rescue the planet. Dubbed Ultraman, this giant's identity and purpose are a mystery.

I was really impressed with Shinji's unique take on the legend of Godzilla with his film Shin Godzilla. So I had real high hopes for Shin Ultraman. Thankfully I was not disappointed. Shin Ultraman has all the heart and spirit of the classic Ultraman, just brought into this generation. The action is great and the story is compelling! I truly loved this version of Ultraman! Shin Ultraman is a loving tribute to the classic Ultraman.

Japanese, Superhero, Kaiju, Ultraman,

Shin Ultraman has been transferred to Blu-ray in 1080p in 1.78:1 aspect ratio. There are two audio options of original Japanese 5.1 Surround Sound or the English dubbed version in 2.0 Stereo and 5.1 Surround Sound. In addition there is English Subtitles.

Of course with a 2022 release you don't have to worry about degradation of film stock. So the film transfer looks impressive to say the least. The colors are bright and vibrant, skin tones are great, and there is no signs of artifacts. So this is a tremendous looking transfer to Blu-ray. In addition to a great transfer we get a couple bonus features.

Okay so as you can see the bonus features are a bit thin on this release. It would have been nice to see an audio commentary or interviews. But I can over look that for the shear fun and adventure than Shin Ultraman take the audience on. And a huge plus for me is the English dubbing. If you have been reading on Classic Cinema+ for any bit of time you know how much I enjoy those bad English dubs. And this one is no different!

So if you enjoy Ultraman as much as I do, you need to see this new Shin Ultraman release. It is amazing! I highly recommend adding it to your Ultraman collection. In my humble opinion no Ultraman collection is complete without it! Head over to Amazon and order your copy today.
