Mitch Carterfield directed this almost 50-minute biographical look that this complex, genius that had a very flawed personality. While the film is under 50 minutes, it packed a lot of information in that very short time.
Used to enhance this film is footage of scientist and labs, stock footage and more. I found this biographical film very interesting, and it really does shine a light on the controversial decisions made by Oppenheimer and his colleagues, culminating in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The only downside of this is the narration is fast. It seems like they are trying to rush through the life of Oppenheimer. It is so fast that if you are not listening carefully, you can miss a lot.
Now while this film may not be as entertaining as an actual film adaption, as a huge fan of documentary films. I enjoyed it a lot. The film has been transferred to DVD in widescreen format. it looks crisp and clean.
As for the DVD itself there is no bonus features. I wish there would have been some expert interviews added about people who knew about the life and times of J. Robert Oppenheimer. I think additional stories about the man would have taken a nice DVD to a must own DVD.
Now I am not disparaging this DVD release I am just saying it could have been made batter. But I loved the documentary film and I am glad I had the opportunity to watch it.
Now if you love documentary films as much as I do. If you would like to know more about the man Oppenheimer this is a great way to discover the whole truth about his life. Head over to Amazon and order your copy of Oppenheimer: Genius or Madman?
