Father's Little Dividend (1951) Blu-ray Review

Spencer Tracy Joan Bennett and Elizabeth Taylor three Hollywood legends came together to make a classic comedy entitled Father of the Bride. Warner Archive released this tremendous film on Blu-ray and many like me wondered if would ever see the great sequel on Blu-ray. Well, wonder no more. Father's Little Dividend is coming to Blu-ray!

In 1951 Tracy, Bennett and Taylor all return for the sequel, and I am so glad they did. If there is one thing, I cannot stand it is when a film sequel is made with recasting. It is as if the studio says, 'the audience is stupid, they will never know the difference.' Thankfully MGM didn't do that in this case.

Stanley and Ellie Banks (Spencer Tracy and Joan Bennett) have barely had time to recover from their daughter's (Taylor) wedding when they learn they are to be grandparents. Their dreams of peace and quiet are soon shattered by baby wails and dirty diapers!

As much as I love Father of the Bride (and I do). As much as I think it is one of the best classic Hollywood comedies of all time. Father's Little Dividend is just as charming. Just as much fun. And just as good of a film as the first film. Very rarely is that the case in films.

Warner Archive Collection had released Father's Little Dividend on Blu-ray featuring a brand new 4K scan from the original camera negative. The film is presented in 1080p in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. The soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There are also English subtitles for their deaf and hard of hearing.

Father's Little Dividend has been in the public domain for quite a few years. This means that there have been countless less than stellar releases of this classic film to VHS and DVD. I have owned some of these releases. But seeing this new 4K scan blows my mind. I cannot believe how beautiful this film looks. The picture is sharp and clean with no signs of damage. I am glad to retire the old public domain DVDs for this new Blu-ray!

Now in addition to a stellar 4K scan transfer to Blu-ray Warner Archive Collection added some
very cool bonus features to this Blu-ray disc. Take a look at what is included.

* Two Classic Tom & Jerry Cartoons
   Just Ducky (1953): Jerry protects a newly hatched duck from Tom and teaches him to swim.
   Jerry and the Goldfish (1952): Jerry protects a goldfish from tom who wants to make fish stew.
* Pete Smith Specialty: Bargain Madness (1951) Women fight for bargains at a department store with hilarious results.
* The Original Theatrical Trailer

I grew up on classic cartoons and on TCM playing shorts like Pete Smith films. So, any time Warner Archive adds these bonuses to a Blu-ray release, for me it cranks the cool factor up to a 10. IF your are looking to see this classic I highly recommend seeing it here instead of online. This Blu-ray is the way
 people experience this classic.

If you love Warner Archive's Blu-ray release of Father of The Bride, your collection isn't complete without this new Blu-ray of the sequel Father's Little Dividend. Head over to MovieZyng and order your copy today. You won't be disappointed.
