Blu-ray Review: Long Long Trailer (1954)

When you say Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz most people think the iconic show I Love Lucy. But they also made movies together as well! One of my favorites was 1953's The Long, Long Trailer.

When Warner Archive announced the Blu-ray release of The Long, Long Trailer to say I was excited would be an understatement. I love the fact this Lucy/Desi classic is getting a Blu-ray release, complete with bonus features.

Nicholas Collini (Desi Arnaz) is a travelling engineer. His fiancée, Tacy (Lucille Ball) has a brilliant idea, rather than buying a house, they invest in a motor home so they can see the country together. But aggravations of life on the road take their toll on the happy couple, putting their young marriage in jeopardy.

Lucy and Desi were in the middle of their time on shooting I Love Lucy when they took a break to shoot this film. There was thoughts that The Long, Long Trailer would probably loose money. The reason behind that the higher-ups thought the feeling from movie goers would be, "we can watch Lucy and Desi on TV, why go to the movies." I am glad to say they were wrong. The Long, Long Trailer made a huge amount of profit.

Tacy and Nicky sounds familiar to Lucy and Desi huh? The Long, Long Trailer has all the fun of I love Lucy's crazy situations and slapstick comedy. The film is light-hearted and so much fun. Along with Lucy and Desi check out the amazing performances from Marjorie Main (Ma and Pa Kettle film series) and Keenan Wynn (The Absent-Minded Professor). Also look for Aunt Harriett Cooper from the 1960's Batman TV Series Madge Blake.

Warner Archive has transferred this 50s comedy classic to Blu-ray in 1080p in 1.75:1 aspect ratio. This is sourced from a 4k scan of the Original Camera Negative. The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio.

I must say seeing this film on Blu-ray in such beautiful quality is a dream come true. The picture is crisp and clean the colors are vibrant and the audio is clear as a bell. Along with the simply gorgeous 4K scan it is so awesome to see the film in it's original aspect ratio for the first time on a home video release. But that is not all. Warner Archive added some awesome bonus features. Take a look at what is included in this Blu-ray.

* Pete Smith Specialty Short: Ain't It Aggarvatin'?
A 1954 short film starring Dave O'Brien as he tries to park his car on a city street. And than at home, he decides tries to build a patio in his back yard with the cement keep getting messed up.
* Classic Cartoon: Dixieland Droopy
A 1954 A Dixieland-music-loving dog (Droopy) steals a Dixieland music group of fleas and goes on the run.
* Theatrical Trailer

With a spectacular looking 4K scan and the inclusion of a Pete Smith Short, cartoon and trailer, this Blu-ray is like going to the movies in the 50s. I really enjoyed the fun of this release. Warner Archive has done it again, bringing film fans another must own release.

If you love Lucy and Desi as much as I do! This amazing new Blu-ray is one you are going to want for your collection. Head over to Amazon and order your copy today. It looks so good you won't regret it!
