The TARDIS! Time Lord! The Sonic Screwdriver! These are terms that are synonymous with Dr. Who. Dr. Who is one of the longest running TV show of all time. It's initial run started in 1963 and ran to 1989. It has since ran additional seasons and reboots and gain such popularity Dr. Who is a high part of pop culture.
On August 23, 1965 Dr. Who and the Daleks, a full length feature movie starring the great Peter Cushing was released. While the film was not part of the Dr. Who "universe". It was a very entertaining feature film.
The film follows an eccentric inventor Dr. Who (Peter Cushing), his granddaughters Susan (Roberta Tovey) and Barbara (Jennie Linden), and Barbara's boyfriend Ian (Roy Castle). Dr. Who's latest invention is TARDIS, a time and space travel machine. They are accidentally transported to the Planet Skaro, where they help the inhabitants in a battle against the evil race of cyborg creatures known as the Daleks.
One must realize with this feature there is no resemblance between this film and the TV series. These are two separate forms of entertainment. Peter Cushing's Dr. Who is not the alien time lord he is just an inventor. But the Daleks are still a race bent on extermination.
This film is an exciting adventure of man against machine in an ultimate fight for survival. It is hard to believe that it is coming onto the 60th anniversary of this film, and yet it is still as fun and entertaining of a film as not doubt it was in 1965.
