9 times out of 10 made-for-TV horror movies are less than stellar. I might go a step further on that. Most of the time they are just plain bad. That is for one except for the one 80s film. A Made-For-TV horror that most people will admit is probably the best ever. I am talking about Dark Night of the Scarecrow.

On the 30th anniversary of this cult classics initial release the great folks at VCI Entertainment released a deluxe Blu-ray edition of this film. You can read our review of that Blu-ray release here. Well, now 40 years later we return to the cornfield for a sequel with Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2 and VCI Entertainment and MVD Visual are the ones handling the Blu-ray release.

Chris Rhymer (Amber Wedding) and her young son Jeremy (Aiden Shurr) are on the run from their past. They have relocated to a small community in Stubblefield County. Jeremy hates his school and classmates. He only seems to have a connection with his after school sitter who he calls Aunt Hildie. Hilda Corvus (Carol Dines) on the outside seems normal, but she holds a dark secret. Little to they know how dark that secret truly is.

Anytime you are trying to make a sequel to a cult classic 40 years later without the original cast that made this film a cult classic, to say it is a daunting task is an understatement. So I came into this film with extremely low expectations. That is probably why I didn't mind this film as much, because my expectations were low!

J.D. Feigelson who wrote the teleplay for the original, produced, wrote and directed this sequel. Now while the sequel tries hard the atmosphere and suspense that burned Dark Night of the Scarecrow into the hearts and minds of horror movie fans just doesn't seem to be there this time around.

I am glad to say that for a 2021 film it was not filled with profanity, and the violence was mild in comparison to horror films nowadays. Which was a breath of fresh air for a classic horror movie fan like myself.

Dark Night of the Scarecrow 2 has been transferred in 1080p in aspect ratio 16x9. There are audio options for both stereo and Dolby Digital 5.1. Finally there is the option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

The film looks to have been filmed digitally, ass it lakes the warmth of film stock. But it is a crystal clear transfer with no signs of damage and the audio us clear. As for bonus features on this release VCI and MVD loaded the movie trailer and other VCI release trailers as well. Take a look at the trailers included.
