In the 1950s and 60s 3D movies were very popular at first, but soon the novelty of it soon faded. Than in the 1980s there was a resurgence of popularity of 3D films. Most of them being R rated horror fare. In 1983 producer Gene Quintano said, "Most of the other 3-D films have been R-rated," says Quintano. "Ours is PG because we wanted the whole family to come and enjoy the 3-D experience." So thus was released the action adventure film Treasure of the Four Crowns.

Now almost 40 years after it's original release it is getting a stand alone Deluxe Blu-ray release thanks to the great folks at Kino Lorber under the division KL Studio Classics.

A set of mystical artifacts known as "the four crowns" have fallen into the hands of the cult leader Brother Jonas (Emiliano Redondo). He has plans for world domination. There is only one hope to thrwart the evil plan of Brother Jonas and it is in the hands of J.T. Striker (Tony Anthony, Comin’ at Ya!). Now with a ragtag team of mercenaries, Striker must battle terrifying natural—and supernatural—enemies within a fortress-like temple where the stakes may be nothing less than the balance between good and evil.

Sadly this film gets a bad rap! I think for an Italian produced film it is a thrilling and exciting piece of cinema. And the amazing film score by the legendary Ennio Morricone (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly) is an absolute stunning bonus!

This exciting 80s cult classic has been transferred in 1080p in 2:35:1 aspect ratio. There is options for both
5.1 Surround & Lossless 2.0 Audio. There is also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

Now this film's transfer does have some scratches and imperfections in the picture. It is not perfect, not by a longshot. But watching this in 3D you won't even notice the imperfection, you will just marvel at the 3D action flying at you.

Kino Lorber Bluray still

Now this Blu-ray release includes The 2D Version of the film and both the BD3D Polarized AND Anaglyphic (Red/Cyan) 3-D Versions. Now I must say for me I watched both the 2D and 3D versions of this film and by far the 3D version is the superior experience.

Now for me this is enough to make this release a must for action adventure film fans. But Kino Lorber added some great bonus features to this Blu-ray. Take a look at what is included in this release.

* NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Jason Pichonsky

* NEW Audio Interview with Star Tony Anthony Conducted by Filmmaker Douglas Hosdale

* Theatrical Trailer (Newly Mastered in 2K)

* Contains One Pair of Anaglyphic 3-D Glasses

OK now many people ma say this is a blatant Indiana Jones rip-off. And while I can see what they are saying. To me this film has a charm all it's own and deserves to be seen through non judgmental eyes.
