Puppy Love (2020) {Mill Creek Entertainment DVD Review}

Puppy Love aka Baby Bulldog on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment
Reviewed By Jason Lockard

In this day and age it is hard to find a good family friendly film that the whole family will enjoy. I think for the most part everybody loves a good dog movie.

Now Pit Bulldogs get a bad name for the fact that they have been used by people in dog fighting. There have also been many pit bull attacks over the years. But really any dog can be trained to be mean.

In 2020 there was a film entitled Baby Bulldog that told a story of love, hope and how "One Dog can Change Everything". Now the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment have released this film on DVD under the title "Puppy Love".

The film follows animal-lover and adopted child Amber who desperately wants a dog to love. She volunteers at the local animal shelter. While there she falls in love with a baby pit bulldog she named Shadow. After exhausting all attempts of adoption of the cute puppy, she find out Shadow is on his last day before he must be put down. Heartbroken Amber's parents allow her to adopt Shadow... Happy Ending not even close as there is a pitbull ban in the town. Now Amber must take her fight to city hall to save her new best friend.

First and foremost it must be noted that this is a very low budget film, and it does show a bit. But it is still a well produced film. There is also couple of stars in this film you may remember seeing. Tara Reid (The Big Lebowski) and Dean Cain (Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman). Than there is newcomer Calhoun Koenig shows real promise and you may see good things from her in the years to come.

The film is geared a little more towards kids as the film is narrated by Ambers parrot there is also some times where we hear the dogs thoughts. Now some adults may find this absurd, but kids will find it a welcomed addition to the film.

I must say watching this film it was lacking a bit in the entertainment aspect, but there is a lot of drama and even had me shedding a tear. Also what is a bonus for this film is it runs just over an hour and 10 minutes. So there is no time to really become bored with the film.

Mill Creek Entertainment have transferred this film on DVD. The film is presented in widescreen format and in Dolby audio. The film looks really nice on DVD. Which probably should be expected as this is a 70 minute 2020 film so there is no pixilation from overcrowding of the disc and no degradation of the picture.

Now for bonus features on this disc. There is no real bonuses, there is just an option for English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. Although that is a nice option to have on a disc.
