Odd Thomas (2013) {Blu-ray Review}

On March 11, 1989 a very talented young actor named Anton Yelchin was born. So talented was this young man that he would take up the mantle of many iconic film roles such as Pavel Chekov in the reboot of Star Trek and Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation. He would even lend his voice to Clumsy Smurf in The Smurfs movie.

During this time he would take the starring role in the film based on the best selling novel from author Dean Koontz entitled Odd Thomas. Image and RLJ Entertainment released this sci-fi adventure film on Blu-ray/DVD combo pack.

The film follows a young man named Odd Thomas (the late Anton Yelchin) who spends his days as a short-order cook in a local dinner and his nights fighting ghostly creatures name bodachs. Now Odd is facing his greatest challenge to date; for where he used to see one or two bodachs, this day he sees hundreds. This town is in trouble and their only hope is Odd Thomas.

Odd Thomas is a fun little action packed film. Anton Yelchin is great as our hero Odd. The CGI is pretty impressive. And the story movies along at a fast paced so there is no chance of finding yourself bored. It is good to note that there is a good amount of scary images and violence aa well as some adult language for this film is for teens and adults. It will be a bit much for the kids.

This Bu-ray DVD combo pack includes an absolutely gorgeous transfer of this film, but sadly there is no bonus features at all! No trailer, no commentary, no making of feature. That was a little disappointing to me!

Sadly on June 19, 2016 at the age of 27 Anton was found pinned between his Jeep Grand Cherokee and a brick pillar gate post outside his house in Studio City, Los Angeles. His tragic death leaves us only to dream about the amazing performances he would have had during his short career.

Sadly there are just a few films that Anton Yelchin was in. And Odd Thomas holds a very special place in my heart. I really enjoy reliving this sci-fi adventure time and time again.
