Many people remember Fred MacMurray from his classic TV show My Three Sons. Others may hear the name Fred MacMurray and think of his amazing films he did for Walt Disney, but Fred was much more. He was an accomplished actor of film noirs, dramas, and even westerns.

Kino Lorber have been releasing some amazing westerns. The latest is the Western Classic II. On this set is the Fred MacMurray film Gun for a Coward. But now it is time for another Fred MacMuarry western to shine on Blu-ray, that film is 1957s Quantez.

The film follows John Coventry, the leader of a gang of robbers who are on the run from the law trying to escape across the Mexican border. As they continue their journey come to a stop
in the mysterious abandoned town of Quantez. As the enemy closes in and the men have a choice to make.

Harry Keller directs a pretty entertaining little western. Out of an amazing story of redemption. Is it Universal Pictures best? No! Not by a long shot, but that doesn't mean there is not any value here. This is the second Blu-ray of Harry Keller films that Kino Lorber Studio Classics have released. The first being Texas Across the River.

The cast does a really remarkable job. John Larch, James Barton, Dorthy Malone, Sydney Chaplin and John Gavin are really good, but as always to me Fred MacMurray really steals the show. We are so used to seeing him as the mild mannered man that when he is the tough guy it can be hard to take, but he is tremendous.

As for this Blu-ray release Kino Lorber has done it again making another must own release in my opinion. The film has been transferred in 1080p in 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The colors are bright and yet there is a raw and grittiness to the film that is perfect for a western. There is no damage to this print that I saw as I watched the film.

The Blu-ray audio is a DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono track. The audio in conversations can be low at times., but that is the film not the transfer. The audio is clear as a bell! Now to fix the issue of the low audio at some times there is English subtitles. Problem solved.

Now as for the Blu-ray bonus features. Kino Lorber has added a very good audio commentary from film historian Toby Roan. There is so much good information in this commentary, it is a great little bonus. I consider this a must hear commentary. Than in addition is the trailer for this film Quantez, as well as trailers for other films including, Gun For a Coward, Horizons West and Night Passage.

In the final analysis Quantez is 81 minutes of slow burn western fun. And Kino Lorber Studio Classics have given this film the love a film featuring Fred MacMurray deserves. I really enjoyed the time spent watching and reviewing this film. I think western fans will enjoy it as well!
