Juneteenth is a day we celebrate the offical end of slavery in the United States. Many have been wanting it to be instituted as a National Holiday. And this year 2020, amid nationwide anti-racism protests, many companies have given employees the day off.
So on this day off it is a good time to watch some films that celebrate the Black community and remember the hardships that the slaves had to suffer. For the only way we can change the future is to remember the past.
So today we are giving you 5 movie suggestions for viewing on this Juneteenth.
5. Brian Banks (2018) A football player's dreams to play pro football o up in smoke when he is
wrongly convicted and sent to prison. Years later, he fights to clear
his name within an unjust system.
4. 42 (2013) Jackie Robinson
becomes the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball in
the modern era when he was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers and faces
considerable racism in the process.
3. Black Panther (2018) T'Challa, heir to the hidden but advanced kingdom of Wakanda, must step
forward to lead his people into a new future and must confront a
challenger from his country's past.
2. Sounder (1972) The oldest son of a loving and strong family of black sharecroppers
comes of age in the Depression-era South after his father is imprisoned
for stealing food.
1. Roots (1977) A TV Mini-series of author Alex Haley's family line from ancestor Kunta Kinte's enslavement to his descendants' liberation.
So we gave you a great mix of old and new sports and drama action and adventure. No doubt one of these will be on your list.
So whatever you watch this special day, remember one thing. We should never think of color. There is only one race and that is the Human race. Be kind to each other and let's make this world a better place to live.
