Top 7 Movies for Memorial Day

Written By Jason Lockard

Memorial Day is a very special day here in America. It is when we celebrate the sacrifices of our Brave Men and Women of our Armed forces. We here at Classic Cinema Magazine want to thank these amazing service people, for giving of themselves to keep our country free.

Today we are going to give our Top 7 movie list for Memorial Day. But before we do that why not check out our reviews of two amazing  documentary DVD sets. WWI  and WWII. Also we have a review of the Cold War Thrillers Movie collection on DVD here.

Now let's get to the list. Please note that we are rating classic war films so some of the great newer movies didn't make this list. Not that they are not good. We simply went on age of the films.

7. Twelve O'Clock High (1949) A hard-as-nails general takes over a bomber unit suffering from low morale and whips them into fighting shape.

6. They Were Expendable (1945) The PT boat unit Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron Three defends the Philippines from Japanese invasion during World War II.

5. Sargent York (1941) A marksman is drafted in World War I and ends up becoming one of the most celebrated war heroes.

4. The Longest Day (1962) The events of D-Day, told on a grand scale from both the Allied and German points of view.

3. The Great Escape (1963)
Allied prisoners of war plan for several hundred of their number to escape from a German camp during World War II.

2. The Best Years of our lives (1946)
Three World War II veterans return home to small-town America to discover that they and their families have been irreparably changed.

1. Lawrence of Arabia (1962) The story of T.E. Lawrence, the English officer who successfully united and led the diverse, often warring, Arab tribes during World War I in order to fight the Turks.

So what is you're favorite Memorial Day movie? I would love to hear your suggestions. And again thank you to all the brave men and women for their sacrifices to keep us free here in America.
