DVD Review: Jack the Giant Killer (1962)

Reviewed By Jason S. Lockard

Moviegoers love to take the thrill rides of action and adventure. In the 1950s and 60s people marveled at movies such as The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad and Jason and the Argonauts. In 1962 Jack The Giant Killer was released to little fanfare almost 60 years ago!

But thanks to Legend Films you to can relive this classic adventure film on DVD. Whenever you want and introduce a whole new generation to the stop motion animation goodness.

Jack the Giant Killer follows a farm boy who heroically rescues Princess Elaine from a sorcerer named Pendragon by slaying his bloodthirsty giant. But Pendragon would not stop there Jack must continue on his quest crossing the ocean, battle dragons, fight two-headed ogres and an army of ghouls to save his lady love!

The movie features great stop motion animation, but it was not done by the legendary Ray Harryhausen, but by Jim Danforth. In a world that is inundated with CGI, I love seeing the stop motion animation! It is so classy. Jack the Giant Killer belongs right up there with other Harryhausen films. It is that good.

As for the DVD it features an absolutely beautiful copy of this classic film. It is transferred in its original full-screen format and presented in 1.33:1 aspect ratio. But, sadly no bonus features are found, but movie lovers will be ecstatic with the film.

So if you love adventure films of yesteryear as much as me this is one you have to own. Head over to www.LegendFilms.com and pick up a copy today! You can also own it on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber head over to Amazon.com.
