Attack Force Z (1982)

In 1979 the world witnessed the beginnings of a superstar in Mel Gibson in the post apocalyptic Mad Max. Than just a couple years later Gibson would star alongside Sam Neill (Jurassic Park) in a World War 2 film entitled Attack Force Z. Now thanks to Umbrella Pictures and MVD Visual this action packed film on Blu-ray.

Attack Force Z follows Five commandos on a Japanese-held island in the Dutch East Indies. There mission there is to local and rescue the survivors of an airplane that was shot down. Beyond that one of the castaways , is a defecting Japanese official, who holds the secret of ending the war and must be saved at all costs.

Attack Force Z
script was based on a real-life commando rescue raid. The film has a great cast and is well acted. The action is good, and the direction is amazing bringing you front and center to all the pulse pounding action. It's a typical 80s action war film. Nothing to write home about, but a good night at the movies.

As for the blu-ray the film has a brand new 4K scan been restored from the film's inter-positive. It's in 1080p HD in 1.85:1 widescreen aspect ratio with the original uncompressed dual channel mono audio. The film looks good for an 80s low budget Australian film. There is some grain, but for me the grain adds to to realism of the film.

MVD Visual didn't go bare bones with this release. They gave us bonus features including; English subtitles for the hearing impaired, The Z-Men Devrifed, A 25 minute featurette with executive producer John McCallum and actors John Waters and Chris Haywood, The Original Theatrical trailer and Photo Gallery

This is the second time Attack Force Z has been released on blu-ray here in America. The previous release was cropped picture and was not restored to any degree. This time with the help of MVD Visual they got it right. The film looks and sounds better than ever.

So if your a fan of Mel Gibson, action or war films, Action Force Z is one for you. You can get it on DVD or Blu-ray from MVDVisual.com.
