In the 80s and 90's sketch comedy stars were making the jump to the big screen. Jon Lovitz spent 1985-90 on Saturday night live and Damon Wayans spent the early 90s on In Living Color.
These two tried their hands at comedy on the big screen with High School High and Mo' Money. Now thanks to the good folks at Mill Creek Entertainment these two films are making their debut on High Definition Blu-ray with the Nineties Comedy Double Feature. Let's take at this release.
Our Rating System:
**** = Don’t Miss it!
*** = Worth a look.
** = An Ok way to spend an evening.
* = You haven’t missed anything.
MO’ MONEY (1992) Con man Johnny (Damon Wayans) falls for Amber (Stacey Dash), he decides to stop conning and gets a job at her workplace in order to get closer to her. Trying to impress her he steals a company credit card. A blackmailer catches Johnny and forces him to commit a crime that is far from small. Damon's younger brother Marlon join in on the antic and we see some of Damon's characters made famous on "In Living Color." **
HIGH SCHOOL HIGH (1996) High-school history teacher Richard Clark (Jon Lovitz) leaves the prestigious Wellington Academy and heads to inner-city Marion Barry High. He aims to inspire the D-grade students there, no matter what it takes. This is typical spoof comedy! High School High makes light of the film "Dangerous Minds"! **
These two films are not high brow comedy. They are just off the wall and sometimes off color comedies. But they are very funny films to just sit back and laugh. It is good to note these films are not for the kids. High School High has some sexual humor and a little profanity and some drug use! Where Mo Money is much more adult oriented having heavy profanity, some violence, drug use and sexual content!
The films are presented in widescreen format. The aspect ratio 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The audio is in Dolby digital. Both films also have English subtitles for the deaf and hearing impaired.
Both films are housed on one Blu-ray disc.
Now you might think the film quality would suffer but in my opinion I think they picture and sound is pretty impressive. As for the Blu-ray menus, they couldn't be easier to access. All you have to do is click on the picture, than select if you want the subtitles on or off.
I really enjoyed this double feature. I like Damon Wayans characters, but there is something about Jon Lovitz I enjoy everything he does and High School High is no different. I am glad to have this Blu-ray in my collection.
So if you love nineties comedies as much as I do, you have to add this double feature Blu-ray to your collection. This is basically 2 comedies for the price of 1! How can you say no to that?! Head over to Amazon today. You can check out the trailers from each of these films below!
