Star Wars Holiday Special

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Star Wars fans love anything and everything Star Wars related. Whether it's the movies, comics, TV series, books, posters, toys or collectables. Star Wars has been and is big business.

Well, just after the success of the first movie, the infamous Holiday Special was produced. Probably many have heard it is the worst thing ever produced. But how can that be? How can you go from Star Wars and and in just two more years producing what many believe is the best of the series Empire strikes back, but in between produce a complete stinker of a film? Let's film out.

The film follows the events taking place around Life Day. Han Solo is trying to get Chewbacca home in time for the celebration with his family. Wife Malla, father, Itchy and son Lumpy. Yes, those are the names, I did not make those names up!

Getting worried that Chewy isn't home yet Malla contacts Luke Skywalker, who with R2-D2, is working on his X-wing starfighter. Luke tells her that he does not know what happened. Malla contacts Saun Dann (Art Carney), a local trader. He tells her that Han and Chewbacca are on their way and should be arriving soon.

What follows is a lot of filler to make an hour and a half film. We see Malla  attempting to prepare a meal, with the instructions of a four-armed alien cook, Chef Gormaanda, played by Harvey Korman. There is also an appearance of Bea Arthur who runs the
Mos Eisley cantina. It only get stranger as Harvey Korman plays an alien at the cantina who drinks through a hole in his head. He also plays a malfunctioning robot. There is also a fair amount of singing! Yeah Singing!

Soon Storm troopers arrive at Malla's house thinking Chewy and Han are there. As they search the house the best part of the whole movie occurs Lumpy watches a cartoon adventure of Boba Fett.

Yes this film is as bad as it sounds! There is no doubt why George Lucas wants it to disappear. But the question comes to mind! Why would he have ever thought this was a good idea in any way shape or form to begin with! Yes I know he is not credited as producer, writer, director, but I can't imagine he had no idea at all what was going on here! Maybe I'm wrong..... who knows!

One thing is for sure if you have never seen this off-the-wall, bizarre film, you haven't missed anything! What is your thoughts on this film? Is it the worst film ever! Did you enjoy it? Weigh-in in the comments! We would love to hear what you think!
