Clark Gable Collection (1935-1939) Blu-ray Review

In the history of Hollywood there are few more recognizable men than that of Clark Gable. When most think of Clark Gable the first role that would come to most people's mind would be Rhett Butler in Gone with the Wind.

But during his illustrious career he was in many amazing films, from many different genres. We see him in the military in Run, Silent, Run Deep, in the old west in The Tall Man and Romantic comedy in It happened one night.

Warner Archive loves classic Hollywood as much as we do! So, they have given us a 4-movie Blu-ray set of Clark Gable films, with The Clark Gable Collection.

Mutiny on the Bounty (1935) The real-life mutiny of 1789 come to life on film as first mate Fletcher Christian (Gable) leads a revolt against the evil Captain Bligh played by Charles Laughton. ***

San Francisco (1936) Saloonkeeper Blackie Norton (Gable) and a Nob Hill impresario fight for the affections of a beautiful singer in 1906 San Francisco, just before the great earthquake. ***

Wife Vs Secretary (1936) Van Stanhope (Gable) is a publishing executive who is accused by his wife of having a relationship that is more than just professional with his secretary. ***

Idiot's Delight (1939) At the beginning of World War II a group of travelers find themselves together in a posh Alpine hotel when the borders are closed. ***

Warner Archive Collection have transferred these films in 1080p and are presented in their original aspect ratio of 1.37:1. The soundtrack is a DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. There are also English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing.

These are truly some of the best Clark Gable movies to watch on Blu-ray. It is a wonderful collection of films from different movies genres. These films look really nice in HD. The restoration and Blu-ray transfers give new life to these films that are close to 100 years old! Now each film has its own dedicated Blu-ray disc, and each disc has nice bonus features. As you can see this Blu-ray collection is really an epic release. Not only do we get 4 classic Clark Gable films, but all these bonus features as well! The cartoons are always a welcomed addition, and I love the short films. Then there is the alternate ending, these are always cool to see what could have been. but probably my favorite bonus here is the documentary film Clark Gable: Tall, Dark & Handsome, hosted by Liam Neeson. This film takes us on a look back at the man, the myth and the legend that is Clark Gable.
