Doctor Mordrid (1992)

Reviewed By Jason Lockard

Charles Band produced many B-movies in the 80s and 90s in genres of sci-fi, horror and fantasy. Some of the good, most of them, not so great! Doctor Mordrid is one of those films from Charles Band it's available on Blu-ray from Full Moon Features.

Originally Charles Band had the rights to Marvel's Dr. Strange, but before he could produce the film the rights lapsed. But that did not deter him from producing a Dr. Strange-esque film.

The film follows Doctor Mordrid (Jeffery Combs) a good sorcerer who is chosen to be the protector of Earth from the evil Kabal (Brian Thompson) who wants to rule Earth. Can Doctor Mordrid can stop him? You'll have to watch the film to find out.

When you go to watch a Charles Band film you know your not getting a big block buster release. The story was good. The effects by today's standards cheesy, but for than not bad. I loved the stop motion dinosaur fight! But the language and nudity for me was just unnecessary. It felt like the producers were trying not to make this family movie. In my opinion that was a big mistake this could have been one of Charles Band's biggest successes.

The blu-ray transfer is really clear. The bonus features on this blu-ray include; trailers, audio commentary by Jeffery Combs and Charles band, a videozone featurette, uncut footage from the full moon vault and a rare interview with Jeffery Combs and Barbara Crampton hosted by Wiliam Shatner.
