Soap Season 1 and 2

Reviewed by Jason S. Lockard

Soap operas are, were and to many still are all the rage. Whenever something is popular someone is bound to spoof it, so along came Soap.

Now thanks to Mill Creek Entertainment you can relive the antics of the Campbells and the Tates over and over again with the first and second season on DVD combo pack.

The series opened each episode with this narration from Rod Roddy: “This is the story of two sisters. Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell. Jessica lives in a neighborhood known as “rich”. Jessica likes life, the only thing about life she would change if she could, is that she would set it all to music. The Tates have more secrets than they do money. We’re approaching Mary Campbell’s house. Mary, too, likes life. Unfortunately, life doesn’t seem to be too crazy about her. As you can see the Campbell’s don’t have nearly as much money as the Tates. They do, however, have as many secrets. Our story begins early one morning in Dunns River, Connecticut.”

As you can probably tell this series didn’t take itself seriously! Some of the topics dealt with in a humorous way was homosexuality, ethnic minorities, the mentally ill, infidelity, impotence, incest, sexual harassment, rape, student-teacher sexual relationships, kidnapping, organized crime, and new age cults. All within the families of The Tates and Campbells. The only sane one in this whole messed up family menagerie was Benson DuBois the Tate’s African-Amercian butler. Who held everything together while the family was going nuts around him.

This extremely funny 2 season set is on a four disc DVD set and includes all 47 season 1 and 2 episodes in really good audio and video quality. The DVD menus are easy to access!

This is just a really great collection for the adults! With so much adult themes I can not recommend it for the kids, but the adults and mature teens are going to love the hilarious antics.

So if your a fan of wacky, way out comedies, this is the one for you! For only $14.98 (MSRP) you get 2 seasons by clicking
